Annual Sports Meet 2022-23

“Sports can bring people together and nothing else can. It breaks down all barriers and builds up understanding and friendship”.
The annual sports meet of Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva was held on 13th, 14th and 15th of October, 2022. On the 13th of October at 9.30 a.m. all the student athletes from Grade 1 to 12th assembled on the school ground for the inaugural function of the sports meet. The president of the event was the Correspondent, V. Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford Dsouza, Chief Guest,Mr Wilfred Dsouza, District Youth Officer, Nehru Yuva Kendra Udupi, Guest of HonourMrRathan Kumar Shetty, President of GramaPanchayat,Shirva, the School Management Committee members, PTA Executive Committee members, the Principal, Rev. FrRolwynAranha, Vice Principal,MrsIrineCardoza were escorted by the school band group.
The dignitaries were welcomed and introduced by the school Principal Rev. FrRowlyn Joy Aranha. The school flag which is the symbol of hopes and aspirations of the school was hoisted by the Correspondent of the school. One of the highlights of the sports meet was the march past which was performed exceedingly well and it was in tandem to the school band. Nearly 620 athletes participated with thrill,vigour and enthusiasm in the march past.
The lighting of the Olympic torch which ignites the passion of sporting spirit was very exciting and was handed over to the Guest of Honour, MrRathan Kumar Shetty. Chief Guest Mr Wilfred Dsouza took the guard of honour by the marching colourful troops. Then all the dignitaries on the dais officially declared the sports meet open by releasing a bunch of balloons.
The school took its ardent pleasure to honor the first citizen of the village MrRathan Kumar Shetty. Later in his address to the athletes he said sports is something that teaches human qualities like dedication, leadership, discipline, cooperation etc. He requested the students to develop these qualities in them.
The Chief Guest Mr Wilfred Dsouza said that sports is the great unifier, it breaks down barriers it fosters unity and it is a channel of physical expression for the youth and brings out the best out of them.
The President of the function V. Rev. Dr Leslie Clifford DSouza addressed the athletes saying that sports brings a great sense of joy and pride upon winning or in its participation. He compared the house colours with the Olympic ring colours finding similarity in it. He called upon the athletes to exhibit to leadership qualities and be an amazing sports person.
The programme ended with the vote of thanks by MrsAkhila, MrsDeena Amathi compered the programme.
“Important thing in life is not the triumph but the fight the essential thing is not to have won, but to have fought well” with this motto the students performed various sports events in the following three days.
