National Sports Day

National Sports Day is celebrated in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, a true legend in the history of Indian Sports.29 August, the birthday of major Dhyan Chand, the hockey wizard, marks an important day for athletes and sports personnel in India. The student community of Don Bosco English Medium School celebrated the special day paying tribute to the contributors and achievers in sports arena.
The assembly was inclusive of a formal programme celebrating National Sports Day. Sharon Corda, of grade XII, hosted the programme. Rovina of grade 10 cordially welcomed the gathering. Aston’s speech furnished the importance of the day, throwing lime light of the hockey wizard major Dhyan Chand. Major Dhyan Chand is regarded as one of the greatest field hockey players in history, and he played a pivotal role in securing gold medals for India in the 1928, 1932, and 1936 Olympic Games.
In the next phase of the programme, the students Samar and Arsh drew everyone’s focus towards the achievements of Olympic medal winners of 2024.Students impersonated the achievers, donned in the attire of the Olympic medalists. The students of primary section performed aerobics appealing the audience with their graceful moves to promote the importance of sports and physical activities in daily life, the students of class XII, enacted a short and impressive skit .The skit, in a subtle manner shed light on the ignorance of masses on opting for sports as an ambitious career option .The impressive skit left a trail in the young minds to ponder and research on the widespread branches of sports arena. One of the students of class 5 ,Ronel ,bagging gold medal in District level Karate competition was honored by the Principal during the programme.
The Principal of the school Rev. Fr. Rolwyn Joy Aranha emphasized the need to develop a healthy lifestyle and mentioned that sports and fitness is a prerequisite to a content life. In addition to this, Rev. Fr. Rolwyn Aranha, also paid tribute to the magician in the field of hockey, reminiscing his valuable contribution to Indian sports. To mark the closure of the programme, a formal vote of thanks was addressed by Shreyas of class 10. On the whole, the programme celebrated the lives of extraordinary achievers in Indian sports.
