Annual Sports Meet

The Annual Sports Meet of Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva is a highly anticipated event that showcases the athletic talents and sportsmanship of its students. The event was scheduled on November 5 and 6, 2024 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The sports meet was inaugurated by the esteemed Chief Guest, Rev. Fr Francis Arun Dsouza OP, Sports Secretary, AICS, D.K. District and Superior, Mariashram, Polali. The school Correspondent, Very Rev. Fr Leslie Clifford Dsouza was the President of the day. School Principal, Rev Fr Rolwyn Joy Aranha, Rev Fr Ronson Pinto, Assistant Parish Priest, Mr Melwyn Aranha, President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Mrs Irene Cardoza, Vice Principal were present on the dais.
The key highlights of the event was the impressive march past, where athletes both boys and girls, proudly carried their house flags in vibrant colors – Red, Green, Yellow and Blue, signifying their unity and team spirit. Each house was determined to score maximum points in the competitions, with the ultimate aim of winning the championship trophy and earning the prestigious title of school champions. The day also included the traditional hoisting of the school flag and the lighting of the Olympic torch symbolizing the athlete’s commitment to excellence. The Olympic torch was symbolically lit by Rev. Fr Ronson Pinto, Assistant Parish Priest of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva, then handed over to the student athletes who had excelled in various sports disciplines.
In his inaugural speech, Rev. Fr Francis Arun Dsouza delivered an inspiring address urging students to cultivate resilience in the face of adversity, foster meaningful connections with others, build on empathy and understanding, embody the essence of true sportsmanship, teamwork and unwavering excellence. He emphasized that these values are essential for achieving success, not only on the playing field but also in life’s journey.
Despite the scorching heat, the students’ enthusiasm remained unwavering. Correspondent Very Rev. Fr Leslie Clifford Dsouza, addressed the gathering, wishing the students an unforgettable experience during the two-day sports extravaganza. Inspiring the young athletes he quoted the Olympic motto “Faster, Higher, Stronger”. He urged them to embody this spirit, striving for excellence in every aspect of their lives.
Vice Principal, Mrs Irene Cardoza welcomed the gathering. Mrs Savitha Shettigar introduced the Chief Guest to the gathering. Physical Education Instructor Mr Nataraj proposed the vote of thanks. Programme was compeered by Mrs Philomena Barboza.
