Gandhi Jayanti

On the occasion of the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the centenary year of the Belgaum Session of the Indian National Congress, Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva, conducted a special assembly to mark the significance of the day. The Scout and Guide unit of the school organized an all-faith prayer service, emphasizing unity and respect for different religious beliefs. The celebration began with a welcome note by Prarthana P. Acharya, followed by a lamp-lighting ceremony in which the Principal, Vice Principal, Scout and Guide teachers, leaders, and student representatives participated, symbolizing the spirit of the occasion. A tribute was paid to the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri to honor their immense contributions to the nation. Ravin spoke on the importance of the day, followed by scripture readings and devotional bhajans that added a spiritual dimension to the program.
Principal Fr. Rolwyn Joy Aranha delivered an inspiring speech, urging the students to uphold the values of truth and non-violence that Mahatma Gandhi stood for. He encouraged them to embody the values preached by Gandhi and called on them to lead clean, value-based lives, rooted in honesty and integrity. The event concluded with a vote of thanks. As part of the Gandhi Jayanti tradition, secondary students and the Scout and Guide units participated in Shramadhan (voluntary labor), reflecting Gandhi’s principles of dignity in work and selfless service. The celebration was a thoughtful tribute to the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, reinforcing his timeless message of truth, non-violence, community service.
