Celebration of “Vanamahotsav’ – “Go Green” initiative by the school

It was overwhelming to see Don Bosco English Medium School,Shirva join hands in celebrating the ‘Vanmahotsav ‘ Day on 5/7/24.The day is celebrated as part of the ‘Go Green’ initiative of the school committee.
Remembering the future is in our hands the school took initiative to stand preserve our land.The week long celebration was intiated on 1/7/24 a commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable living.
Children of various classes created awareness about the importance of the festival as to when and why is this day celebrated .They also made us aware to contribute more green space to our mother land.
“He who plants a tree ,plants hope!” VanMahotsav has grown to be a significant annual occasion in India, supporting the preservation of forests and increasing awareness of the value of trees in reducing climate change.
The event began with prayer song by the school choir group . The day was hosted by Rashi Poojary of grade10 ,welcome speech was given by Ayesha Nuza of grade 9,Jesvita Dsouza of grade 8 formally introduced the Chief Guest and the importance of the day was shared by Breena Corda of grade 7.
A simple ,but effective speech by the Chief Guest Mr.Sijoy Thomas (M.Sc in IT and Management) who advised the young generation to step forward and grow in love with nature and expressed his views on the importance of having knowledge of trees and growing vivid variety of useful trees in our surroundings.
The dignitaries Principal fr.Rolwyn Joy Arhana,Mr,Sijoy Thomas ,Mr Sandeep Quadras(MCC Bank Karkala) and Vice Principal Mrs.Irine Cardoza planted a sapling as a symbolic representation of the day.
The Principal educated the children to make it a habit to care for our mother land and practice eco friendly ways to conserve the environment .Throughout the week he highlighted the importance of trees in everyday life.
On this occasion the MCC bank Karkala and Shirva donated a water purifier to the school. Mohammed Shihab of grade 6 concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
