Independence Day

On the auspicious occasion of the 78th Independence Day, Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva celebrated the event with great enthusiasm and patriotism. The entire school was adorned with tricolour decorations, and students, teachers, parents and staff came together to commemorate this historic day.
The Correspondent of the school Very Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford Dsouza, Chief Guest of the programme Ex- Serviceman & Social worker Mr. Gilbert Braganza, Belvai, Principal Rev. Fr. Rolwyn Joy Aranha, Assistant Parish Priest Rev.Fr.Ronson Pinto, Vice Principal Mrs. Irene Cardoza, Vice President of the Parish Pastrol Council Mr. Melwyn Aranha, PTA President Mrs. Sowmya R, SPL Varsha R and the members of the school management committee were escorted to the venue by the school band. The programme began with the prayer song lead by the school choir group. Garen Noronha of grade 9 welcomed the gathering and Swayam of grade 9 introduced the chief guest.
The tricolour was hoisted by the chief guest. As the flag unfurled, the National Anthem was sung by all present, filling the atmosphere with a sense of pride and unity.
The Chief Guest delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of independence and the responsibilities that come with it. He encouraged the students to uphold the values of freedom, equality, and remember the soldiers and farmers in their lives and to contribute positively to the nation’s growth by quoting, “We are born with a breath, and we must die with a legacy.”
The school correspondent Very Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford Dsouza in his speech, highlighted the importance of freedom. He said that “India is not just a land but its people so it’s alive” He concluded by saying “let us channelize our resources to make India leading country in the world”.
Correspondent handed over replica of national emblem as memento to the chief guest as a token of love and respect. Rayan Alvares of grade 10 compered the programme.
Following the flag hoisting, a series of cultural programs were organized in the school auditorium. The students showcased their talents through patriotic songs, dances, and skits that highlighted the journey of India’s struggle for independence and its rich cultural heritage. A special dance performance representing Mangal Pandey, the man who is often referred to as India’s first freedom fighter was a highlight of the event, receiving applause from all attendees. The celebration also included the distribution of prizes for class notice board decoration competition held in the lead-up to Independence Day. Vishwatej and Maithri of grade 10 compered the cultural events.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks followed by the distribution of sweets to everyone present. The event was not just a celebration of freedom but also a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals to secure the nation’s independence. The day left a lasting impact on everyone, reinforcing the importance of freedom and the need to preserve it for future generations.
