Annual Sports Meet

The Annual Sports Meet 2023-24 of Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva, was held on October 30th and 31st with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. The grand inauguration ceremony featured Mr. Shaktivelu E, Sub-Inspector of Shirva Police Station, as the chief guest, and Mrs. Sharadi Bhat, Quality Analyst at HSBC Bank, Bangalore, and an alumna of DBEMS, as the guest of honor. The event was graced by the presence of the Correspondent, Rev. Dr. Leslie D’Souza, Assistant Parish Priest Fr. Ronson Pinto, Fr. Jaison Lobo of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva, and PTA President Mr. Melwyn D’Souza.
Principal Rev. Fr. Rolwyn Aranha welcomed the gathering, and the school sports flag was hoisted by the Correspondent. A commendable and disciplined march-past was presented by students of all four houses, along with senior secondary students. The chief guest, Mr. Shaktivelu E, lit the Olympic torch, and the sports meet was officially declared open by releasing pigeons. In his address, the chief guest spoke about the importance of sports in school life and encouraged students to participate in sports activities. The guest of honor wished the athletes good luck, while the Correspondent emphasized the importance of staying active in sports. As a token of appreciation, the chief guest and guest of honor were presented with a plant as a memento. The event oath was then taken by the students.
Several sporting events were held over the two-day meet, including high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin throw, discus throw, shot put, and various track events. Students participated with great enthusiasm, showcasing their talent and dedication.
Valedictory Ceremony:
The chief guest for the closing ceremony was Mr. Jayashankar K, Principal of St. Mary’s PU College, Shirva. He performed the flag-lowering ceremony, after which the overall champions took the flag and completed a lap around the ground. In his address, he highlighted the significance of sports in shaping one’s career. The chief guest then officially declared the meet closed, marking the end of a successful and exciting sports event.
