Teachers Day Celebration 2020

Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva observed the 132nd birth anniversary of the great academic philosopher, first vice president, second President of India and above all the great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan as Teachers’ Day on 05 September 2020
It was rather a low key celebration without the presence of the students. Thanks to the pandemic Covid – 19! The Correspondent of the school Very Rev. Fr. Denis Dsa, Principal Ms Myrtle L F Lewis, the teaching and non-teaching staff paid a floral tribute by showering petals on the portrait of Dr Radhakrishnan. St Mother Teresa of Kolkota too was remembered on this occasion for her service to suffering humanity.
The celebration began with a melodious prayer song sung by the teachers. The Principal Ms Myrtle L F Lewis spoke about the significance of the day and called upon the teachers to introspect their teaching profession. She also congratulated the teachers for taking up the noble profession of teaching.
The President of the programme. Very Rev Fr Denis DSa greeted the teachers on their special day. He thanked the teachers for their selfless service and commitment towards their profession, students and institution. Expaling the threefold purposes of the days’ celebration the Correspondent said that firstly it’s a day to thank God for calling them to the sacred ministry and duty of shaping the personality of students; secondly,it is to introspect about their profession, professionalism and commitment and thirdly it’s a day to plan the teaching program in the present day context of Covid-19. Times have changed and the world has gone virtual/online. A teacher cannot say that the digital language is not his/her cup of tea. We are compelled to perform or perish; exist or to extinct! The teachers have a sacred responsibility is to inform, form, reform and transform.
The formal program was preceded by a colourful cultural bonanza by the teachers which included dance performances, a meaningful skit on the theme Aathma Nirbhar and a Few lucky games. The winners were rewarded and all teachers were felicitated.
Mrs Gretta Noronha welcomed the gathering. Joyce Menezes proposed the vote of thanks. Mr Jasion Ignatius Castelino compered the programme.
