The Don Bosco School grieves at the untimely death of the Principal Fr. Mahesh D’souza on 11-10-2019. The entire hamlet of Shirva and the district of Udupi was shocked to hear the demise of Fr. Mahesh, Assistant Parish priest and the Principal of Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva.
Fr. Mahesh D’Souza hails from Moodubelle. Born on March 30, 1983 as the second son of Frederick and Matilda D’Souza, he was ordained as the first priest of the newly erected Udupi diocese on April 15, 2013.
Since 2013, he served as Assistant Parish Priest at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur and Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte. At the same time he was the headmaster –in-charge of Milagres English Medium School.
In 2016, he was appointed assistant parish priest at Shirva Church and principal of Don Bosco CBSE School. He worked selflessly for the development of Don Bosco CBSE School. He was loved by the school children and the parents for his simplicity and kindness.
Final respects were paid at Shirva Church from 10 a.m. Hundreds of students, family members, friends and parishioners gathered in the church premises to pay last respects.
The funeral rites of Fr. Mahesh D’Souza, took place at Shirva Church on Tuesday, October 15. Over ten thousand people gathered for the funeral. Heavy rains poured when the funeral mass was going on. A large congregation of priests religious and the lay faithful from the diocese of Udupi and Mangalore paid their last respects to Fr Mahesh D’Souza. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi Diocese was the main celebrant of funeral Mass. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop emeritus, Mangaluru, MsgrBapitstMenezes, vicar general, Udupi diocese, Fr Denis D’Sa, vicar forene and parish priest, Shirva parish, priests of Shriva deanery, Udupi and Mangaluru were the co-celebrants. At the end of the Mass, as a mark of respect, different representatives laid wreaths and garlands over the mortal remains of the deceased Fr Mahesh D’souza. On behalf of the Diocese Fr. StanyTauro former parish priest of Shirva, from church community ZillaPanchayath member Wilson Rodrigues, School vice principal Mrs. Irene Cardoza and on behalf of the family Mr. Austin Barboza delivered the condolence messages.
Fr. Mahesh was a well-known personality to the community as well as to the vicinity. He had an amazing personality; he was a motivator of the youth. He had touched the lives of thousands of school children and has left his footprints to be followed through his hard work and the fragrance of friendship he spread.
